Travel makeup bag

DSC01282editsmall

I am the worst packer in the world, I will carry so much stuff that people might actually think I am moving there instead of just going for a trip. Because I normally buy so much when I am back in Taiwan, I try not to carry too much stuff, especially makeup since chances are I will just buy a bunch of stuff there anyway.

I tried to condense everything to one item per category, except for eyeliner and lipstick, because obviously one cannot just pack one lipstick.

Best of 2015 – Makeup

Foundation – YSL Fusion Ink Foundation
I discovered this foundation early in the year and it quickly became my favourite foundation, maybe ever. Because of the satin-ish finish, it can be used in winter and summer. It is also really long lasting which is perfect for that 9-5 life when you want your makeup to last all day.

Blush – MAC Dainty Mineralized Blush & NARS Torrid
Mac Dainty blush is a neutral pink shade with tiny specks of glitter in it. It is very pretty and easy to use, as well as extremely versatile since it goes with so many different looks. I use this blush all throughout winter and spring because it gives that out in the cold kind of flushed look.
NARS Torrid is a beautiful coral shade that looks amazing with a tan. The formula for nars blushes are long lasting and pigmented, and defiantly one of the best blushes on the market. Torrid is great for summer, and leading into Autumn. The only thing I don’t like is the packaging.

Contour – Sleek Contour Kit
This product is perfect for contouring since it contains no shimmer at all, as well as leaning more gray than orange toned. It creates the shadow-y look. It is also really cheap and comes in a few shades.

Bronzer – Hourglass Ambient Bronzer
Have you ever wanted that JLO glow? This product warms up the complexion so nicely, and it contains shimmer so it is more suitable for being an all over bronzer. The formula, like all the other hourglass products, is super fine and applies beautifully.

Concealer – Maybelline Instant Age Rewind & Mac Studio Finish Concealer
I love the maybelline instant age rewind concealer for everyday use. I apply this under the eyes, above the brows and down the nose for a highlighted look. It also evens out the skin.
When I want to cover any blemishes, I use the Mac studio finish concealer. It is very good at concealing almost everything, but the formula is quite thick so it doesn’t suit being applied under the eye.

Powder – Hourglass ambient lighting palette & Maybelline powder
The hourglass powder is almost like photoshop in palette form. It has the tiniest shimmer particles in it, creating this glow from within (but not oily glow) look. It is amazing for setting makeup and the middle shade is great as a highlighter.
The maybelline powder has been one of my holy grails for years (I think this might be my third one). I can only find it in Taiwan, so I buy one every time I go back. It is just so smooth and sets foundation perfectly.

Brows – Shiseido brow pencil & Anastasia dipbrow
I have probably gone through four of these things this year alone. It is super natural and easy to use, and it doesn’t have the learning curve required for the dipbrow. The only downside is that it does run out quickly, and is more expensive than the dipbrow (which literally never ends)
The dipbrow is what I choose when I want super long lasting, doesn’t budge even if you’re in the ocean brows. It is a bit hard to use, and it is really easy to go a bit heavy handed with this product.

Eyeshadow – Too Faced Natural Eye Palette & Colourpop Lala & HolikaHolika
I own a lot of palettes, but out of all of them I reached for this one the most. It is just the easiest to use, and you can create so many good looks with this one palette. The Too Faced formula is really smooth and pigmented. The packaging is slim and easy to travel with, making it my ideal travel palette as well.
Colourpop Lala shadow is for when I just want a simple one sweep of colour look on my lids. I love the formula and the consistency of the colourpop eyeshadows, as well as the super intense colour payoff.
The holikaholika dual shadow is something I like to bring with me on the go because it comes in the tiniest packaging, and offers decent pigmentation. The pink and brown shades make a really great daily look.

Mascara – Tarte 4-in-1 Mascara & Fairydrops scandal queen mascara
The tarte mascara does a great job at volumizing my sad Asian eyelashes while remaining waterproof and holding a curl. The packaging is kinda chunky and the wand is pretty huge, but overall it is one of the best western market mascaras for Asian lashes.
The fairydrops mascara has been a hot topic in the beauty community lately. It is super waterproof, like insanely hard to get off waterproof. The wand is kinda weird, but the formula is great for lashes that point downwards since it really holds a curl. It is more lengthening than volumizing.

Eyeliner – Kat Von D liquid liner & Stila liquid liner & Mac pencil liner in black ice
Liquid liners are my fav type of eyeliner. The kat von d liquid liner is one of the beauty community favorites along with the stila liquid liner. Both are great eyeliners that I highly recommend depending on your preferences for liquid liners. The stila one has a felt tip while the KVD one has a liner tip, the KVD one being more flexible. Both are super long lasting, and the KVD has more of a matte finish, while the Stila is more glossy. Stila is darker than the KVD.
For lower lash line, I like a pencil formula since it creates more of a softer edge than the sharpness of a liquid liner. The MAC pencil liner is a nice basic black liner that is great for applying on the lower waterline, and doesn’t smudge like a lot of other pencil liners.

Eye Primer – Urban Decay
Eye primers are an essential for me because of my hooded Asian lids. No matter what eyeshadow formula I try, they always seem to fade and crease on me so I need something to make them last. I have been using the Urban Decay primer all year. It makes everything more vibrant and longer lasting on the lids. I don’t like how they changed the packaging to using a wand with a squeeze tube now, but it is something I can look past.

Lipstick – NARS Rikugien
I received this in my sephora birthday gift thing. It is just the most perfect everyday lipstick for me, since it is this mauvy pink shade that is kinda glossy, but not shimmery. I haven’t been that into lipsticks this year ever since I ventured into the world of lip tints, but I can see myself buying a full size when I finish this.

Lip Tint/Stain – Sephora luster matte, Sephora creamy lip tint & Aritaum lasting tint
I have really been loving lip tints lately. They are pigmented and long lasting. I have been loving the brighter shades, with a classic matte red shade, a super bright magenta, and a cute coral shade that’s perfect for summer. Lip tints I find are longer lasting than lipsticks, especially after eating and drinking. They also don’t feather as much as lipsticks, so I prefer my brighter shades in a lip cream / tint formula.

Lip Balm – Dior
This is one of those expensive lip balms that isn’t really necessary, but such a luxury to have, and since this is my end of year favorites I am just going to include it. It is just gorgeous, from the way it applies to the pink packaging. I am tempted to buy another when I go through duty free for Christmas because I know I will run out of this one.

Bucket List: Travel

pexels-photo-largeWith the whole millennial ~wanderlust~ trend going around lately, sites are going crazy writing lists of why you should (or should not) travel (in your 20’s). I personally think that traveling is a good way to experience different cultures and different ways of life, while understanding yourself and others.

There are a few things on my travel bucket list:

  • Stay at one of the resorts in Maldives
  • Visit the pyramids
  • Visit Italy
  • Visit Santorini
  • Party in Rio
  • Visit the salt flats in Bolivia
  • New York
  • Go back to Thailand and Malaysia
  • Visit South Korea
  • Go cherry blossom watching in Japan
  • Disneyland
  • Stay at the Ritz in Paris
  • Road trip along the west coast of the US

Hopefully I can cross off a few in the next few years.

Handbag Wish List

wish

I don’t believe in the whole ~you can never have too many bags~ thing. Maybe because lately I started to understand the whole quality > quantity idea, and the concept of actually getting use out of the items you own. What is the point of spending 3000$ on a bag that sees sunlight once a year? I believe that all you need is a few bags for different situations (work, night out, casual day, fancy event..etc).

If I had all the money in the world……

  1. LV Alma BB in Vernis Leather  (or Epi) – I love how small and cute this bag is. To me, this looks like a casual brunch out with friends type of bag. It carries all the essentials while still looking cute and sophisticated.
  2. Prada Double Zip Tote – A perfect work bag because it is structured and carries a lot of stuff. I love how it also has a strap that you can attach to it. Prada bags are classic and elegant, which would make it my ideal work bag.
  3. Balenciaga City Tote – Kinda edgy and super casual, the balenciaga bag brings out the edgier side in every outfit. It looks especially great after being worn in a bit, especially since the leather is so soft.
  4. Hermes Kelly – The most expensive and luxurious bag out of the bunch, you can’t simply rock up to Hermes to buy one of these. At roughly $10,000, this bag is at the top in terms of quality and name brand. This would be a great bag for a formal work event, or even just casually on a day out when paired with the strap.
